Founded in 1981 by current President & CEO Michael D Smith. Wow it really is hard to believe thirty years have gone buy. The history of it all , I started out with four Altman fresnels I inherited from a band I played drums with called the Stover Brothers. Mike, Ken and Jeff Stover all horn players at Warner Robins high school. Bob Zuspann , Gary Lane and myself later converted Ken Stover to play bass in our hard rock band.
I graduated from Warner Robins high school in 1975 during 11th and 12th grades I took electronics at the Houston vocational school now called Middle Georgia technical college, maintained an "A" average. After high school I bounced around from job to job had no interest at all to go to a four year college.
Thought I was going to be a drummer rock star "Ha-ha". November of 1979 one of my closet and best friends from our band days Gary Lane new someone at a company called AVCO financial services. I applied was interviewed and got the job with full benefits package
I had almost nine years in the finance industry. During this time when I had a real job I started buying par cans and truss. The jobs started coming in for lights, around 1989 I had to make a decision stay in the finance industry or go full time with lighting.
Made the decision to go full time lighting September 1990 and have never looked back.
Today both my sons Martin D Smith vice president and Mitchell D Smith operations manager are strongly involved with the day to day business activities. We have a vast inventory of lighting, staging Thomas Load-bearing roofs, Vari-lights , led lighting, conventional stage lighting you name it we try to have it available to meet our clients needs at a fare and affordable price.
The future is bright, I still love what this industry is all about new great things are happing all the time.
